The life of Jaylen Lott, an 18-year-old High School student from Georgia who was spending time with relatives in Florida, came to a premature and unfortunate end on Sunday, after he went under the water at St. Augustine Beach.

The Florida Morning Post understands that Lott was among a group of students who were caught up in a riptide that day, and was calling for help.

But while rescuers were able to save two other swimmers, they were unable to save Lott, who was found some 90 minutes later after an aerial and water search.

However, when Lott was found, he was said to be in a critical condition, and was later pronounced dead by a doctor who subsequently arrived on the scene.

Lott who was scheduled to graduate from the Lowndes High in Valdosta, Georgia would be remembered at that ceremony, which is a mere ten days from today.

In a Facebook post, the school said “Our hearts ache for our Viking family today. The loss of a young life is always impossible to understand. We will continue to keep each of you in our thoughts during the days to come,”.
