Local Lakewood Ranch police and the Fish and Wildlife Commission are searching for 2 people who dumped an injured alligator at a Manatee County WaWa.

It happened around 2:20am on June 15 when the Sheriff’s Office got a 911 call that the alligator had been dumped inside the Wawa store on State Road.

Fortunately, at only 3-feet long was more of an adolescent than a monster, but nevertheless, the Sheriff had to call in FWC to trap and remove the confused critter. The mission took about an hour, and the alligator was retrieved without incident.

The humorous part of this tale aside, animal cruelty (even alligator cruelty), is not acceptable. If you have any information about how this alligator was injured and ended up at WaWa, please contact FWC’s Wildlife Alert hotline at 888-404-3922.

If you need to report an alligator in the wrong place, please contact the FWC’s nuisance hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR.
